Choosing the right makeup artist to create your ideal wedding look can sometimes be a challenging task. We turned to Sydney based makeup artist Megan Vaughan to find out exactly what every bride should know before a makeup consultation...

What do you love most about wedding makeup artistry?  I love the creativeness of it. Every face is a blank canvas. I feel a deep sense of satisfaction when an apprehensive bride walks through my door with a bare face and leaves elated as a perfectly painted and enhanced version of herself. Makeup is so much more than a swipe of lipstick and a lashing of mascara. A good makeup artist will enhance the features that you love while camouflaging your areas of concern. It is humbling to have a bride select you to play such an integral part in one of the biggest days of their lives.

What should a bride prepare before a consultation with a wedding makeup artist?  I like a bride to bring photos of make-up styles she likes. Images assist the communication process and ensures you are on the right page before you start. Makeup, like art is interpretive. A smokey eye to the bride could be something entirely different to me. Wedding details are also important. I like to know the colour and style of the dress, accessories, floral arrangements, how she will be wearing her hair, the time of day of the service and whether it is being held in or outdoors. All these details may seem insignificant where makeup is concerned but they are some of the most important details required to design a makeup that is going to suit the bride and the theme of her day.

Your favourite makeup look for an Autumn wedding?  A soft smoky eye applied inchocolate-brown tones. Eyes lined with black eye shadow blended out for a seamless look. Half lashes on the outer corners for added definition. Contouring instead of blush and a matte neutral lip for a natural finish.

How long should a bride/bridal party allow for makeup on her wedding day?  I like a bride to allow 1 hour per person. Especially when there are faux lashes involved.

The top 3 products in your makeup bag…  Benefit Benetint, Tinted moisturiser with SPF, DiorShow Blackout Mascara

On a Sunday afternoon, where would we find you?  If I am not working on a Sunday afternoon, you will find me in a local park with the loves of my life - my husband and 22 month old son Noah.
