Since first launching The LANE, I found endless inspiration in Viciously Cyd, a blog created by fashion designer Cydney Morris of Stone Cold Fox. This amazing blog is a visual feast of dreamy inspiration & an insight into the Stone Cold Fox label which Cydney designs with close friend Dallas Wand. The collection features beautiful dresses (which we've often used in our bridal editorials), that have a renaissance, feminine, slight vintage-inspired feel & are perfect for a Summer wedding. We chat to the Stone Cold Fox girls about their style, aesthetic & inspiration for bridal fashion…
What is the Stone Cold Fox story?
The story of stone cold fox started when two girls who have been best friends forever, graduated college (from San Francisco and Los Angeles schools) moved back to their home town and started a clothing blog in Cyd's parents extra room. As time passed, we kept building our collections, having fun with our photo shoots, and expanding into more stores. We now have our own warehouse locations in laguna beach and costa mesa. We are now currently in about 8 stores, (online and boutiques) and hopefully will come out with our 5th clothing collection sometime in november , as well as another scfhome line sometime in 2012. The name "Stone Cold Fox", came from the movie, virgin suicides. It means you are just a total babe, and that is what we think our clothes turn you into. We are easy going girls, who like to have style, but also be comfortable at the same time. We want our clothes to be classic… items that you have forever.
What sort of women do you design for?
We design for women who appreciate clothing that is hand made, and hard to find. There is so much passion that goes into every item we make. It is for the woman who wants to be comfortable, sexy, but not too sexy. She's elegant with a bit of edge, and is confident in who she is.
What sort of wedding would you imagine she would have?
Probably the weddings we dream of having one day. A beach destination wedding in tulum, or an all white wedding with beautiful roses everywhere. A Moroccan themed wedding with amazing embroidered tapestries. Gardens, vintage couches, tasty tapas dining, candles everywhere, and strung white lights through the trees.
Your latest collection, Beautiful Imperfection has some amazing vintage-inspired dresses that can easily translate to bridal or bridesmaid fashion – do you have many brides-to-be requesting your dresses? Do you custom design one-off dresses?
Yes, a ton of our clients are brides-to-be. A lot of ladies are wearing one dress to get married in, and also some come to us for a dress that they dance and leave the party in. Something a little shorter, but still very bridal. If women come in for a fitting, they can make slight changes, look at fabric and lace options. You are able to play around with what fits best for your body. We have some great brides, who dont want to look so traditional on their wedding day, so they come to us for that special dress that no one else will have. We also get a ton of bridesmaids, getting a stone cold fox dress in black or another shade of color is a great way to make your wedding stylish.
Your style & aesthetic references ‘easy-living’ as a priority, which is evident in your designing – why is that so important to you? Do you think that is important on your wedding day?
We tend to not like the style of the too accessorized, over done girl. The girl who looks like it took her 3 hours to get ready in the moring. We love the messy hair, not so form fitting dress, and a fresh face to represent scf. Its important to feel comfortable in your own skin, and what you wear when you are in scf. We make dresses that you can throw a pair of sandals on with, and go to the beach, or put some great heels on, a leather jacket and you're ready to go out. We think on your wedding day you want to feel unique, and sexy and feel like this is the best day of your life, and being in a beautiful comfortable dress can do that.
If women decide on a custom-design wedding gown, what is the one piece of advice you could give them?
Pick something that is flattering to your body type. We suggest picking a part of your body that you love the most, and show it off. Whether it's your shoulders, go for an off the shoulder dress, if you have great legs, work a short dress. If you have a beautiful chest or back, pick a plunging neck line or low back. You want to be elegant, but show off your best assets. We think your fiance wants to see you as you, just looking your best. Not to fussy with the big hair and princess dress, he wants to see your body shape and you looking naturally beautiful.
And lastly, would stone cold fox ever consider a bridal line?
Oh yes, we have been thinking about it for a while, we are already growing with the brides, once we have some free time we want to set up around a 5 piece wedding dress line. One day it will happen, we definitely have the eye for that type of style.
