Western Australia's Teneil Kable is one of my favourite wedding photographers. I absolutely fell in love with her her creative, photojournalistic style when I first came across her work. Teneil has such a natural ability to capture raw, honest emotion & tell beautiful stories through her images.
In this recent interview Teneil spoke to us about her love of wedding photography, photographic influences and shared an insight into her life behind the scenes...
What drew you to wedding photography in the beginning?
I came to find wedding photography by chance, I was working in the corporate world and one of our clients was franchising their photography studios, he was impressed by my customer service and knowing how much i wanted to be a photographer he offered me the opportunity to work in exchange for knowledge.
Not only was this my first job as a wedding photographer but my first job as a photographer. I stayed in the wedding industry and went on to shoot for Samm Blake for several years before finding myself in the fashion industry working alongside Justin Edward John Smith.
Wedding photography is real life and although there are elements of fashion within each wedding, I'm drawn to the excitement a bride and groom feel when they see their photographs for the first time knowing that what I've created is so invaluable to them is truly the best feeling. The fashion industry places a complete different value on a photograph and so i found myself drawn to were my personality best fitted.
You're based in Western Australia, which is known for its vast and unique landscape; what do you love most about shooting in your home state?
I love that there is always somewhere undiscovered.

Where is one destination/location that you haven’t yet shot in, but have always dreamed to do so?
We are very fortunate with the weather in Perth, but i would love to photograph a white wedding in the snow, in the States or Canada
something different to the glorious sunshine we have here in Perth. I love experiencing new cultures and landscapes too so anywhere overseas would be amazing. I've always wanted to visit Spain, France and Italy.
What other photographers are you inspired by, or feel influences your work? (wedding related or not)
I will never tire looking at the work of Paolo Roversi. The prince of Polaroid! His images are romantic and fragile and allow time for the soul to appear.
I have always known that i would photograph people, I've never felt the same feeling from a landscape as i do from a portrait. His work embodies that depth and feeling that inspires me as a wedding photographer.
Apart from photography, what other creative outlets do you enjoy? I love music, one way or another, we all categorise music and connect songs to emotions or past times. For me music inspires me creatively, It's one of the best pleasures in life.
What aspects do you usually explore during an initial consultation with a bride & groom?
I take a humble approach to in inviting the couple to convey and explore their ideas, with the opportunity to share the journey together and bring to life the vision of their wedding day.
How long does the editing process usually take, and what do you keep in mind when making the final selection of shots for a wedding album?
I like to offer couples a personalised experience which is why i individually take the time to personally photograph and edit their wedding photographs. My time is carefully allocated to each and every couple from their initial consultation right through to the collaborative process of final photo selection for their album.
Which are your favourite moments to capture during both the ceremony and reception?
I really love the congratulations (hugs + kisses) part of the ceremony. Its their first celebration as husband and wife and the emotion, excitement and joy is always evident. My favourite reception moment would have to be the first dance.
The best piece of advice someone gave you?
Style is a journey not a destination.
What excites you most about weddings in 2012?
The opportunity to meet new people, and continue to be inspired to do what i love!
