WHERE: Residential home (backyard wedding) in El Cajon, CA (San Diego proper)
THEME: Vintage Garden Romance - I wanted it all to be very soft and fairy-tale like....almost like it was from another time.
GUESTS: 280
DRESS: San Patrick, Pronovias Barcelona
BRIDESMAIDS: Dress: A little embarrassed to say it was from Charlotte Russe! Although, I altered it myself, removing the ric rac that was on it and adding my own trim below the bust. I used the same tattered tool on the top of my own dress to tie it all in. DIY accessories.
GROOMSMEN: H&M ivory shirt and black tie, Comune waxed canvas pants.
HAIR + MAKEUP: My sister did my hair and good friend Janelle, who works for Laura Mercier, did my makeup. My hairpiece was hand made by my cousin.
RINGS: Mine - Vintage 1930's, Sam's - Black Tungsten
JEWELLERY: Inspired by the work of Marquiss & Camus, a collection of jewellery that offers a truly unique look into the future of remixed couture. I'm SO IN LOVE WITH IT! In my dream world I'd have bought each of my bridesmaids a Marquis & Camus original... but I decided to get crafty instead!
INVITATIONS: My own design. I wanted to create an invite that matched the style of our wedding….a little vintage / soft / romantic / garden…ish! Something classic and pretty that I wouldn’t look back on in a few years and wonder what on earth I was thinking? I love to layer textures and fabrics into many of my designs and I decided to do that here with our invitation as well. I hand drew the branch/feather frame and chose a font i thought suited it. I scanned in some lace and layered it on top of old vintage paper. After playing around with colors for a bit, I decided on this pale peach…which I want to be a dominant color of the florals! And then I went with a slate shimmer envelope. I can’t get enough of custom die cut invitations, so I had to tack on that little added touch as well! yummm…peach and grey make me smile!!
FLOWERS: Independent designer Brenda Davis Landini (no website)
CEREMONY: Prelude - Instrumentals by Joel P. West, Suzy Lee, and Kelly Bennett - Ceremony/Processional - Hilli by AmiinaBride's song - She is Love by Parachute Live song by Kendall Payne during communion.
RECEPTION: Live songs by groomsmen Seth Philpott, Nik Eewing, and Chris Lockman. All the rest was ipod playlists.
PHOTOBOOTH: The photo booth at the wedding was a big hit! We splurged a little on all the film for the polaroid camera…but it was well worth it! I had a few friends help me get together all the props (thanks Dana and Suzy!) We had fur coats and gloves, hats, pearls, vintage glasses, bow ties, moustaches and hand painted masks! (Those things weren’t easy!) Along the lace backdrop we hung vintage frames that people could use as props as well. It was fun to see everyone get into it.
CAKE: Our (gluten free) giant cupcake was made by my Aunt and all the other cupcakes for guests were made by RANCH.
ENTERTAINMENT: FOOD & DRINKS: catered by RANCH Events. We also had a home made candy bar.
CINEMATOGRAPHY: Same Day Premiere edited the footage from our wedding during the cocktail hour (under 2 hours!) and we were able to share it with guests at the end of the night on a huge projector screen! It had the whole crowd in tears! Every time I watch it, it brings me back to that very moment, and I re-live the joy of that day all over again.
LITTLE EXTRAS: Custom designed our own 'mini book' programs which thanked our parents & guests. I wrote a little something special about everyone in our wedding party & made a little bookmark for everyone to take home, Hand made jewelry for the bridesmaids
BEST ADVICE FOR PLANNING A WEDDING/TO BRIDES: Start early and get creative!! Some of my favorite pieces of my wedding were those that cost hardly anything.
